This was the first location we considered for the location shooting for our media product.
We saw this as a good possible choice for our product as it was spacious, therefore giving us more variety for our shot types. The stairs layout was useful as it resembled our original idea for what the stairs should look like. However, the lighting was bright in this house, which gave it a more cosy/warm atmosphere, when we intended to have a dark eery atmosphere.
This was the second option we considered when trying to find a shooting location.
This house was a strong option as it had space like the previous house, but fitted into the genre of our film perfectly. There was not bright lighting, and there was a lot of shadow, therefore fitting into the conventions of a psychological thriller. The hallway was long and this enabled us to create an effective shot of Elizabeth in the hallway. The stairs conveyed an eery atmosphere as they were hard, without carpet and made our dark black wood.
We compared the two locations:
This was the first option for the scene where the fathers body is discovered. The bedroom is quite childish looking however and the lighting is bright and does not convey an eery atmosphere.
This was the second option, and we chose this as we thought the living room looked sinister and eery. It fitted into the genre of the product and was more realistic in terms of the age of the characters and the home they would be likely to live in.
