Research: Audience Analysis: Box Office Research

Conducting audience research enabled me to decide what genre I wanted to follow when creating my teaser trailer. A website called "imdb" provided me with a database about particular thriller films and there box office ratings. Earlier I analysed trailers that were clearly successful, such as Piranha 3D, and using this also enabled me to pick out certain conventions that make a film trailer successful.

After conducting studies online about various genres of film, I have concluded that the thriller genre is one of the most profitable in 2011. A study showed the following sales:

This research showed that films such as Inception and The Titanic were clearly successful because of the film conventions that they used. The titanic earned a total $600,788,188 in sales, and appealed to many because of its storyline and powerful plot.
In 2011 directors are now using more dynamic plots to appeal to the younger generation, and the target audiences can now range from 16-35 years of age because of the plot and even possible stunts used. It is interesting that Sales of the thriller genre are also decreasing, but I believe ecomonomic factors are partly to blame for this. I think that following thriller genres will enable my teaser trailer to be successful as they are very profitable today.
